My whole life, I have been a staunch advocate of reading. Books weren’t just my best companions, they were my only companions for most of my life. So, I wanted to share a list of books you can read to get a nice, strong hit of inspiration and motivation.
Get that whole badass, driven, going to conquer the world vibe going!
2018 is going to be amazing, but we can all use some help. So, let’s talk about 5 books that can give us a boost when we are about to give up and go home!
1. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
I did the forbidden and judged the book by its cover. It’s brightly colored and has the word ‘Magic’ on it, that’s my sweet spot, right there! My instincts did not steer me wrong; I loved, loved this book! This was my first non-fiction book and I am glad I started with this one because it made me want to try more books in the genre. I have not read Eat Pray Love, but I will. If I could ever rent room space in someone’s head, it would be Elizabeth Gilbert. Man, the woman is a force of positivity and inspiration!
The book cover will tell you that the book is all about ‘Creative living beyond fear’ and trust me, it delivers on its promise. According to Elizabeth Gilbert, every creative idea is a living entity and if we treat it with the right amount of respect, it will manifest into the very embodiment of your dreams. This book can convince you to bet on your creative-self with the creativity itself as the best reward.
If you are looking for the courage to trust in your own talents, read this book. If not, read this book anyways. It will leave you feeling energized and chip away at that cynicism. So far as I am concerned, that’s reason enough.
2. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
Who doesn’t know about the phenomenon that is, ‘The Secret’? I’ll be honest, I practice the law of attraction, but I haven’t noticed any drastic change in my material world. I will say this though, reading the book has definitely made me more grateful and optimistic. Life may not have altered dramatically, but my personality definitely has. I am a really BIG believer in magic and energy. The idea that we are in constant dialogue with the universe and therefore, have the power to write our own destiny, blows my mind. A couple reads of the book and you’ll find yourself watching your words and your thoughts. So, forget about the actual manifestation of your dreams, just focus on being a better person. This book can help you do that.

3. Why not me? by Mindy Kaling
“I know what you see when you look at me. A powerful, self-realized woman of color with a brilliant mind and a body that won’t quit.”
Mindy Kaling is right. That is how I see her, but I am also aware that she has struggled a great deal to get where she is today. This book allows you a glimpse into that struggle without being morbid. The book also covers other areas of her life. This is a light-hearted, fun book that normalizes a woman, that has gone from ordinary to extraordinary.

4. The Power of Awareness by Neville Goddard

It is a teeny, tiny book that can be finished in a couple hours, except you’ll pause at every sentence, trying to absorb the very essence of it. To a SMALL degree, it is similar to the Secret in that it makes the man, the arbiter of his own fate. The presentation is very different and packs a powerful punch. The concept of ‘I AM’ – the conscious is explored. My words would not do the book justice, but I highly recommend it.

5. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
You know how we all have this list of people we would invite to a fantasy dinner. In my fantasy, Ayn Rand would be the guest of honor. What a glorious woman!!
Atlas Shrugged has had more impact on my personality and my ideologies than any book I have ever read. It is different from all the other books I have recommended, but I couldn’t resist including it in the list.
This book with its powerful characters and strong ideas can set those latent ambition on fire. Yes, the book is a little dark and fantastical, but the ideas expressed are very much applicable to our world. I’ll let Ayn Rand add credence to my words –
“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it’s yours.”
