I am not a fan of diets or any kind of extreme measure where my body is concerned. If you want a healthy body and mind, you have to make a firm commitment to a healthier lifestyle. There has to be a fundamental change in how we live our life.
Mindless indulgence has to be replaced with a certain degree of discipline that translates into a better diet and daily exercise routine. I have always struggled with weight and skin issues but finally, I think, I have found solutions that work.
As I said, I am not a fan of diets, and I can’t (won’t) follow regimented plans of any kind, be it diet or exercise. Instead, I prefer to make changes that feel good to my body and that I can sustain over a long time.
5 ridiculously simply diet changes can make a massive difference to your health-
Possibilities offered with these changes-
- Your complexion will even out. There will be a healthy glow on your face.
- Bloating won’t be a problem anymore
- Better gut health
- Energy levels will be up which means you’ll be more productive
- Better sleeping habits and it will be much easier to wake up early
Just do the following for a month and you’ll see the difference and as I have already mentioned, these are ridiculously easy to do!
You don’t have to eat less, You just have to eat right.
1. Drink a warm glass of water first thing in the morning
This will help flush out all the toxins and improve digestion. It aids weight loss and improves blood circulation.
You can go one step further and take the warm water with a teaspoon of Turmeric or squeeze in some lemon juice. Green tea may also prove beneficial. My own experience has been great with this addition to my lifestyle.
As soon as I wake up in the morning, I like to drink a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of turmeric in it. I have been doing this consistently for about 4 months now, and my complexion has improved. My gut health is considerably better.
I have also noticed an improvement in my energy level and hair growth. Now, I am not sure that all of this is connected but all of these positive changes happened post the addition of turmeric water to my diet.
2. Increase water intake
Drink plenty of water! Seriously, this is hands down, the most important thing to do.
For all of us, no matter what we are trying to do with our bodies, drinking plenty of water is always immensely important. I used to drink 5 litres in summers. These days, I manage over 2 litres.
Whenever my intake goes below 2 litres, I instantly notice a change in my body. It may manifest in the form of lethargy, constipation, or loss of appetite, but there is always a negative change.
If possible, drink coconut water on empty stomach in the morning. This keeps you hydrated, boosts immunity, and increases our metabolism. Also, it tastes delicious.
3. Include fruits in your diet
Pick any seasonal fruit and integrate them into your daily diet.
This is a painless way of getting in some important nutrients. Fruits are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber. They protect you from chronic diseases.
Also, fruits keep us hydrated and most of them help with skin ailments. On occasion, it doubles as dessert as well which means you take in fewer calories.
4. Choose more vegetarian meals
As a dairy lover, I could never go vegan, but eating more vegetarian meals is definitely doable.
If weight loss is one of your new year goals, you’ll do well to remove meat from your diet. It will also reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Vegetarian meals give us the energy we need without slowing us down. A lot of athletes have adopted a purely plant-based diet and it’s helping them maintain their strength and stamina.
An added bonus is that you stop participating in animal cruelty.
5. Gradually decrease your sugar intake
Emphasis on the word ‘Gradually’!
Too much sugar derails all efforts towards a healthier body, it’s something I have had to accept. This particular change has been the hardest to make, but it is one that is definitely one of the more important steps towards the body I want.
Apart from your physical health, reduced sugar intake can also help maintain emotional equilibrium. It can help sustain energy levels and improve your mood.
All of these changes are easy when compared to the struggle involved in going from an out of shape body to one that supports our ambitious to-do lists and goals. I promise the results will be well worth the effort.
Every day, make the smarter choice. Eventually, there will be no struggle involved. You’ll naturally gravitate towards the healthier choice.
