When it comes to building a successful life, before everything else, we must consider our existing personal assets and evaluate our strategies.
A successful life isn’t about talent or abilities nor does it depend on any external forces. It’s about charting a clear course of action, structuring our daily lives around our goals, and believing in our ability to succeed.
The two elements of utmost importance in building a successful life are-
- Belief system
- Daily rituals
Your belief system is your most powerful asset. It refers to all our beliefs – the ones that we’re aware of and the ones hiding in our subconscious.
Every experience impacts our subconscious. Our culture, educational learning, relationships, travel, readings – it all gets absorbed into our subconscious and therefore, has an impact on our belief system.
So, when we set a goal for ourselves, we may have all the necessary resources but in our mind, we may not believe in our ability to achieve the set goal. This, ultimately has more to do with our success or failure than any actual talent or skill we may or may not have.
These beliefs act like self-fulfilling prophecies.
Your personal narrative, the story you play on a loop in your head eventually becomes the only acceptable truth in your life.
Even as we persistently make strides towards our set targets, if we lack self-belief, confidence, we will fail.
A weak belief system can lead to self-sabotage.
This is why it’s so necessary to-
- Identify all your limiting beliefs
- Align your belief system with your goals
- Create a more optimistic and growth oriented subconscious structure
As a child, I loved writing so obviously, I decided to become a writer but when I shared my aspirations with my mother, she told me to choose something more practical.
Now, to a child, a mother is the most reliable source of information, right? If your mother says something, you automatically believe it. So, to me, writing became something unachievable, something that would bring me heartache. My mind accepted my inability to become successful as a writer and it influenced the career choices I made as an adult.
Last year, I quit my corporate job to focus on my writings. I only reached that point after undergoing what seems like a complete overhaul of my mental structures. I found healing that helped me change my personal narrative. It led to a stronger sense of self.
If you find yourself constantly frustrated in your attempts at building a successful life, happier relationships, or a healthier body, your subconscious may be what needs work.
Some techniques that have shown great results in subconscious reprogramming-
Once you identify your limiting beliefs, you can come up with a series of affirmations that you can feed into your brain with repetition.
If you suffer from low self-confidence, repeating ‘I am intelligent and brave. I believe in myself and my goals.’ can help change the self-dialogue and build a new neural pathway leading to a lasting change in your personal narrative. With repetition, your mind will gradually accept it as your reality, and then, your belief system will realign itself to accommodate this shift in your mindset.

2. Creative Visualisation
This is one of the best techniques.
In Creative visualisation, you create the reality you want in your mind and for a span of a few minutes, you live that reality with every sense at your disposal.
A number of athletes visualise their performance before a game. In fact, studies have shown that visualisation can give us the results as actual practice.
Visualisation of an action activates the same regions of the brain as when we perform said actions; the same neural networks are created.

Meditation comes in many shapes and forms. Choose the one that truly connects you to your senses and allows you to surrender control with little effort.
As you meditate, focus on the problem areas of your life. You can imagine the issues disappearing or resolving on their own. Experience the relief and joy of a favorable resolution in the form of the relaxation permeating your limbs.

Practice chakra healing through guided meditation. Cleanse your energy. These methods in combination with other techniques can really help bolster your belief in your self.
Hypnosis can help reprogram self-sabotaging and self-defeating behavior. I’ve never tried it myself but based on the articles I’ve read, I do feel that it might be the perfect solution for certain people.
It may prove especially useful to addicts or those struggling with unhealthy attachments and toxic relationships.

An article on The Poughkeepsie Journal shares, Hypnosis helps you move beyond your conscious mind by helping you access the subconscious mind, which doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination. Most thought processes and patterns can be overcome and changed, when given enough time and patience. Hypnosis is very useful if you are trying to overcome something you have been struggling with, such as smoking, weight loss or a fear.
You can try any of these techniques to break unhealthy patterns and overcome limiting beliefs.
As you reprogram your subconscious, you must also reevaluate your daily rituals. A well-designed routine is critical to success.
A routine can replace the chaos with discipline and you’ll find your mind and body functioning like a well-oiled machine. You can pick rituals based on the problem areas of your life; better yet, pick a combination that focuses evenly on all critical areas of your life.
A Transformative Morning Routine
In order to design a truly effective daily routine, take into consideration your-
- Daily issues (procrastination, inability to focus, low energy,…)
- Leverageable strengths
Follow the routine consistently. Eventually, you’ll reach a point of automaticity and it’ll cease to be a struggle. Your day will progress with smooth discipline, and you will execute your plans with success going from one achievement to other.
As you build your routine, productivity, self-love, and self-actualization should all be your priority. Any trade-off between the three should be made taking into consideration your unique situation, goals, strengths, and weaknesses.
The following areas should be catered to-
- Skill development (Skills necessary for the achievement of the end goal) and learning
- Spiritual growth
- Mental health
- Physical health
- Goal planning
Set aside time for reflection. Include journaling into your daily schedule. It can help achieve much needed clarity, and it reinforces the positive emotions and acts as an outlet for the negativity in life.
Follow your instinct and make time for all those pursuits that seem necessary to your happiness and growth. Focus on growing your skills and learning a little bit everyday. Overtime, all of these additions will result in steady transformation and solid results.
Building a mind that doesn’t just conceive great ideas but sustains them with the strength of belief and optimism till they turn into reality is the first step towards a successful life.
Establishing a goal and growth oriented system of living with daily rituals designed and selected to enrich personal and professional life complements as well as supports your belief system.
Together, these two elements help achieve the goals we set out for ourselves.
